YOUR TICKET TO PLUM AND PILOT ISLANDS

Go further on your Door County adventure! If you have enjoyed visiting the many nature parks and hiking opportunities on the mainland and Washington Island, there is more to see.

Departing three days a week from Gills Rock, the Yankee Clipper, operated by Captain Chris Voight and crew, will bring you on a narrated tour to Plum and Pilot Islands.

Beginning with the boat tour, you will see the northernmost shoreline and bluffs on the peninsula before crossing Death’s Door towards the islands. We will pass Plum Island’s West side as we cruise toward Pilot Island. Viewing Pilot Island from the water, you will see the original lighthouse structure, manned from 1858 until 1962, set within the island’s rocky landscape. Returning towards Plum Island, the Yankee Clipper will dock at the original life-saving station and boathouse, operated from 1896-1990. You will then have the opportunity to disembark and begin your time at the National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island. With 2 hours to explore the Island’s various hiking trails through beautiful natural scenery, you can see the preserved historic buildings and signal lights and hopefully spot some local wildlife along the way!
